Thanks to Biswa and Bhate Geosciences for an informative presentation and a great lunch consisting of chicken pasta, green beans, roasted potatoes along with brownies and three types of cookies for dessert. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR): A geophysical method that uses radar pulses to image the subsurface. This non-destructive method transmits electromagnetic pulses into the subsurface and based on the reflected signals, it detects presence and location of subsurface targets. GPR can be used in varieties of medium including soil, rock, concrete, ice, freshwater etc. It can detect subsurface objects (rebar, post-tensioned cables, underground utilities), changes in material, voids, cracks etc. GPR can be utilized in several different applications including but not limited to Geotechnical, Subsurface Utility Engineering, and Environmental Engineering.

The Knoxville CSI student chapter had 18 students in attendance at the monthly meeting yesterday evening. The details of the GSR neighborhood library competition were discussed and the students broke into smaller groups. Four groups of students sketched ideas for the neighborhood library and presented the best ideas from each group to the entire chapter. The group enjoyed the Cajun jambalaya prepared by the CSI Knoxville chapter president Gary Bergeron while working on their ideas.
